Course Content

Commercial Building Systems and Components Session

The systems and components sessions offer a comprehensive overview of the technical information relevant to commercial buildings. It reviews several systems outlined in Section 6 Walk-Through Survey of the ComSOP that should be evaluated during an inspection, including roofing, exterior, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and kitchens. Students will learn how to follow an inspection procedure for inventorying building systems and components, identifying and describing common deficiencies, and evaluating overall building condition.

Mock Inspection of a Commercial Building

As part of the class, students will visit a local building to participate in a mock inspection. Students can anticipate exploring low-slope roofs, examining roof-mounted equipment, entering electrical rooms, and gaining firsthand experience with all aspects of the building. This hands-on exercise allows students to ask the instructor about actual items they will come across in the field. The mock inspection occurs on the second half of the last day of class. Transportation will be arranged if needed.

Students will receive a Certificate of Completion for completing this class. It is approved for InterNACHI® and ICC continuing education. Please check the location below for state-specific continuing approvals for home inspector licenses.
